FOLLOWING REPORT BY EXCHANGE DIRECTOR BETH:

25 Ambassadors were met in Brisbane by a delegation from the Exchange Committee.

We toured Parliament House, rode the City Cat on Brisbane River, ate lunch in New Farm Park, explored the City by bus and wandered through the Museum & South Bank.

Then it was on board the coach for the 100km trip to the Gold Coast, where Hosts were met and a lovely Welcome Pot Luck Dinner was enjoyed by all.

On Friday Mayor Ron Clarke MBE welcomed the guests at the Gold Coast City Council Chambers, which was followed by a delicious morning tea and much photo taking.

The group then took part in the Tree Planting Ceremony in Rosser Park.

Lunch was enjoyed in the shady surrounds by the lake, and following this it was on the road again to take part in a walking tour of Bond University.

On Saturday the ambassadors and some of the hosts had a full day visit to the Currumbin Sanctuary where they enjoyed the Free-flight Show, Close Encounters and the Snake Show before having a typical Aussie lunch of Meat Pie, Chips and Salad.

Then - off to feed the kangaroos, watch the Aboriginal dancing and hand feed the Rainbow Lorikeets that fly in twice a day from the wild.

That evening some of the group had a casual dinner by the beach, while others sat back and were enthralled by the spectacular entertainment provided by the Two Tenors and the three wonderful sopranos during Popera on Broadbeach.

Monday we had breakfast at North Burleigh Surf Club, followed by a comprehensive talk on all aspects of Life Saving.

Then the group embarked in a convoy of cars for an Interest drive through Terranora to Murwillumbah in northern NSW. Here they visited Friendship Force member John's Sugar Cane Farm and learned all about the industry.

An enjoyable dinner was cooked and served by TAFE students at VISIONS RESTAURANT at Ashmore in the evening.

The next day (Tuesday) Ambassadors visited Tamborine Mountain Heritage Centre before having a Chicken and Salad Lunch at Pres. Eric & Joy's home on the mountain. Entertainment by a bush poet was enjoyed while Lincoln's Buddy Sizemore played and sang to the appreciative group.

Tuesday just happened to be Melbourne Cup Day and the Ambassadors were initiated into this special Australian celebration with fancy hats and ‘sweeps’ on the Cup.

Wednesday was the day for “Goodbyes” as the large group, plus assorted mountains of luggage, assembled at Robina Railway Station to catch their train for Brisbane Airport where they were to fly to Gisborne, NZ - the next and final phase of their exchange.
